Here at All Real Nutrition, we believe that one small change repeated daily can make a big difference. We try our best in every aspect of the business to be as environmentally conscious as we can. We all are not perfect but as long as we try, that is all that matters. So this New Year's, add a resolution that will help our planet and not hurt it. We have pulled together 10 small changes you could add to your list.

Put your clothesline to use

We always love the conveniences of being able to throw our freshly washed clothes into the tumble dry and to have them ready to wear in no time but more than three-quarters of your laundry’s carbon footprint comes from using dryers, not washers according to Green America. We might not have the weather in Ireland to do this all year round but when we do, make the swap from dryer to the clothesline.

Reuse Glass Jars

Have you made the switch from plastic and have now ended up with some glass jars in your home. Why not save nut butter jars by washing them out and filling them with nuts/dried fruit/seeds for the kitchen presses. They are even be used for holding those runaway pens in your new home office or in the bathroom for holding cotton wool or cotton buds. There are so many uses for glass jars around the home so doublethink how to reuse them before throwing them away.

Invest In A Reusable Water Bottles And Coffee Cups

When you’re constantly on the go, we often forget how much waste builds up, for example multiple coffee runs and buying bottled water on-the-go. Even with the increase of recyclable cups & bottles, these do not always get disposed of, or processed, properly. Why not combat this by keeping a reusable water bottle and/or coffee cup. It might be handiest to keep it in the car or your work desk so that way, you won’t forget them next time you need your caffeine fix or a dose of hydration.

Turn Off The Water When Brushing Your Teeth

It is something we can all find ourselves doing from time to time, it is first thing in the morning, you haven't had your morning coffee yet, but next time you go to brush your teeth make the conscious effort to turn off the tap, over time it will become a subconscious habit and the planet will thank you for it. Remember Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Rewild a part of your garden

We all know how important Bees and insects are to your ecosystem, so why not try one simple way to rewild your garden. You could go native, why not plant some flowers that are already native to your area. You can find a list of plants and trees native to Ireland on Ireland's Wildlife.

Start Composting

Even with all of our efforts to prevent it, there will always be some food waste to manage. Composting is a great way to get a final use out of food. Composting is the natural process of decomposition that turns organic materials like garden waste and vegetable food scraps into a dark, crumbly and earthy smelling material called compost. Compost is rich in nutrients and is great for your garden, shrubs, or even indoor potted plants. Check out some composting tips on Stop Food Waste - Composting

 Buy Loose Fruit and Vegetables

Try and buy loose fruit and vegetables where possible, every supermarket in Ireland now has an abundance amount of loose fruit and vegetables in the store, so why not make the easy switch and save on that single-use plastic.

Educate Yourself On Your Recycling Bin

In 2021 there was a change when it comes to what can go into your recycling bin. Since September 2021, ALL plastics can go into the recycling bin! This is amazing, but with this, we need to make sure that everything that goes into the recycling bin is

  1. Clean
  2. Dry
  3. Loose

Why not take inspiration from Roz Purcell Instagram Reel all about what can and can’t go into the recycling bin. You can also check out Repak's Website for more information.

Cycle to work

Swap 4 wheels for 2 wheels, why not leave your car at home once or twice a week and cycle to work, not only is it good for the environment but also keeps your cardiac health in check. Don’t have a bike? Why not check out if you are eligible for the Bike To Work Scheme.  Also with the rising cost of petrol and diesel, your wallet will thank you for it!

Toothbrush swap

And if all the above feels too much, why not just make one simple swap the next time you are buying a toothbrush grab yourself a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic toothbrush.

So choose one of the above and add it to that resolution list! One small change repeated daily can have a huge impact.
